We compared the UCAT Consortium's course list for 2027 entry with its list for 2026 entry. A course missing from the list may still run; it means UCAT is no longer listed for it, so ask the school.

  • UEA UEA's new BDS Dental Surgery (A200) joins the UCAT course list. It was not on the 2026-entry list. 25 UK and 11 international places.
  • Manchester BDS Dentistry pre-dental entry (A204) is no longer on the UCAT course list. It was listed for 2026 entry. Ask Manchester whether the route still runs.
  • Manchester MBChB Medicine with a foundation year (A104) is no longer on the UCAT course list. It was listed for 2026 entry. Ask Manchester whether the route still runs.
  • Portsmouth BDS Dental Surgery is listed under UCAS code B758. The 2026-entry list showed it as A200.

Are UCAT cut-offs for 2027 entry published?

Mostly not. Of the schools on this page, only Sheffield publishes a 2027 minimum for medicine: 1800 out of 2700. Queen Mary screens both medicine and dentistry at the 4th decile or above, and Liverpool gives an estimated range for medicine of 1880 to 2010 for Home applicants. Most other schools say they have no fixed cut-off or set the line after they see this year's applicants. Bristol publishes last year's final interview thresholds, which are history, not a promise.

Is the UCAT score needed for dentistry lower than for medicine?

Not on the published figures. At Bristol, the 2026-entry Home interview threshold was higher for dentistry (2340) than for medicine (2240), while the Overseas threshold was lower (1970 against 2270). Dental schools can also be stricter on the SJT: Sheffield dentistry needs Band 1 or 2, while Sheffield medicine only looks at the SJT once you are invited to interview.

Do medicine and dentistry at the same university use UCAT the same way?

Not always. Birmingham uses the SJT at medicine interviews but not at all for dentistry. King's leaves the SJT out of medicine shortlisting but counts it for dentistry. Sheffield sets a numeric minimum for medicine and a Band 1 or 2 SJT rule for dentistry. Manchester and Queen Mary apply the same SJT rule to both courses.

If I pass a school's UCAT threshold, do I get an offer?

No. The UCAT screen decides who is considered for, or invited to, interview. Offers come after that. Queen's Belfast makes dentistry offers solely on the interview. UEA ranks interviewed applicants on the interview score and UCAT, weighted equally. Leeds says medicine offers depend on interview performance.

Do international applicants need the UCAT?

For almost every course on this page, yes. There are two exceptions. Queen's Belfast dentistry ranks international and non-ROI EU applicants on academic results without UCAT, and Lancashire medicine asks for UCAT from UK applicants only. Newcastle medicine ranks international applicants for interview on UCAT alone, after an academic screen. Some schools set separate lines for international applicants: Bristol's 2026-entry Overseas thresholds were 2270 for medicine and 1970 for dentistry, and Liverpool estimates 2010 to 2220 for international medicine applicants.

What changed on the UCAT course list for 2027 entry?

UEA added a BDS Dental Surgery course. Manchester's pre-dental BDS route and six-year medicine route with a foundation year are no longer listed. Portsmouth dentistry is now listed under code B758, and the University of Central Lancashire is listed as the University of Lancashire. New medicine routes were added at King's, Nottingham, Anglia Ruskin, Bangor and Swansea.
