How to read your result

The UCAT Situational Judgement Test is reported as a band from 1 (highest) to 4 (lowest), separately from your cognitive score out of 2700. Each university decides what to do with it. Some rule out a band before looking at anything else. Some add points for it, use it at interview or only to break ties. Some do not use it at all.

We read 102 medicine and dentistry courses at 50 schools from the UCAT Consortium's 2027 course list. Physician associate courses and Queen Mary's Malta campus are not included. If a school changes its page, the school's page wins.

Which medical schools reject SJT Band 4 for 2027 entry?

On their published 2027 rules, Anglia Ruskin, Brighton and Sussex, Brunel, UEA (graduate entry only), Edge Hill, Edinburgh, Hull York, Keele, Leicester, Lincoln, Liverpool, Manchester, Nottingham, Queen Mary, Sheffield (dentistry only), St Mary's and Sunderland rule out SJT Band 4 on at least one course. Liverpool's medicine rule applies to Home applicants only. Imperial ruled out Band 4 for 2026 entry but has not published its 2027 rule.

Which schools do not accept SJT Band 3?

Manchester and Sheffield (dentistry only). Manchester does not consider Band 3 or 4 for medicine or dentistry, and Sheffield's dental school needs Band 1 or 2 at its first screen. Sheffield medicine only looks at the SJT once you are invited to interview.

Which medical schools do not use the SJT?

Aston, Bangor, Cambridge, Southampton, Swansea and Warwick say they do not use the SJT band, or do not use it to shortlist, on every course listed here. Bristol, King's medicine and Oxford leave it out of shortlisting. Birmingham does not use it for dentistry.

Is SJT Band 4 the end of my medicine application?

No. 30 of the 102 courses on the UCAT list rule out Band 4 on a published 2027 rule. Many others ignore the band, use it only at interview, or publish nothing. Choose your four UCAS options with the schools that still consider you.

Does the SJT band count for international applicants?

Usually the same rule applies. The exceptions we found: Liverpool does not use the SJT for EU or international medicine applicants, Keele rules out Band 4 for international applicants too, and Queen's Belfast dentistry and Lancashire medicine do not ask international applicants for UCAT at all.

What if a school does not publish an SJT rule?

35 courses, at schools including Aberdeen, Greater Manchester, Cardiff, Lancashire, Chester and Dundee, say nothing about SJT bands on the pages we checked. That is not the same as having no rule. Email the admissions team and ask before you spend a UCAS choice.
