Twelve branch libraries trialled longer evening opening. Only three reported higher visitor numbers than in the same months of the previous year. The remaining branches recorded either unchanged or lower totals. However, the evaluation warned that visitor totals could conceal changes in who used the buildings: several branches reported more employed adults arriving after work. No branch recorded users' employment status before the trial. The service retained longer hours at six branches while it collected further evidence.
