What it covers

Verbal Reasoning (44 questions, 40 scored) and Quantitative Reasoning (36 questions, 32 scored) marks from a full timed practice paper, converted using the five UCAT forms used in 2025. Decision Making is covered only to explain why no conversion is possible.

Method

  1. UCAT's 2025 technical report prints, for each of five test forms, the average and spread of raw marks and of scaled scores (Tables 39, 40 and 42).
  2. If your mark is out of the full 44 or 36, we first scale it to the 40 or 32 scored questions, since four questions in each section are unscored trials.
  3. For each form we line the raw mark up with the scaled scale: scaled average plus (scaled spread divided by raw spread) times (your mark minus the raw average). The estimate is the average across forms, weighted by candidates, rounded to 10.
  4. The range spans every way the trial questions could have fallen, the differences between forms, and 1.96 times each form's published measurement error.

Uncertainty and limits

  • This is experimental. UCAT publishes no raw-to-scaled table, and no individual raw and scaled pairs were available to test it.
  • The one check possible: predicting each form's average scaled score from the other forms, the error averaged 2.3 points over 15 checks. That tests the averages, not your individual mark.
  • A practice paper can be easier or harder than the real forms, which would shift the answer by more than the range shows.
  • Marks far from typical (more than two spreads away) get an extra warning.

What the answer means

The answer is a rough scaled score for a practice mark, useful for tracking progress between papers. It cannot say what the real test will give you, it is not calibrated to any official or commercial mock, and it gives no Decision Making or SJT conversion.

UCAT 2025 raw and scaled scores, form by form

From UCAT’s 2025 Technical Report (Tables 39, 40 and 42). Raw marks are out of the scored questions: 40 in Verbal Reasoning, 32 in Quantitative Reasoning. Decision Making’s raw marks are weighted points, which is why it has no conversion.

Questions people ask

How is the UCAT scored?

Each cognitive section is scaled to a score from 300 to 900 and the three are added to a total out of 2700. The SJT is reported separately as Band 1 to 4. UCAT does not publish how raw marks map to scaled scores.

What is 28 out of 44 in UCAT Verbal Reasoning?

On UCAT's 2025 forms it lines up with about 640, with a range of roughly 540 to 760. 640 was about the 70th percentile of 2025 Verbal Reasoning scores.

Why can't you convert Decision Making?

Some Decision Making questions carry two marks and some give part marks, and a few are unscored. A count of questions right does not tell you the marks UCAT scaled.

Are UCAT practice scores accurate?

Practice papers from different providers differ in difficulty, and none is officially calibrated. Use them to compare yourself over time on the same provider, not to predict an exact score.
