UCAT True, False or Can't Tell questions

Decide whether the passage proves a statement true, proves it false, or does neither.

How to spot it

  • Statement: ... (answer True, False or Can't Tell)

Try one

Original example

The Lindqvist Bridge opened in 1998 and carries both road and rail traffic. Its main span of 490 metres was the longest of any cable-stayed bridge in Northern Europe when it opened. Tolls were charged until 2018, when the construction loans were repaid. Since then, crossings by car have risen by about a fifth, while freight trains still cross at the same rate as before.

Statement: The bridge's main span is still the longest of any cable-stayed bridge in Northern Europe.

The method

  1. Find the sentence the statement is about.
  2. True or False only if that sentence settles it, with no outside knowledge.
  3. If it needs a step the passage does not give, Can't Tell.

The trap

Watch forAnswering True because the statement is probably right, when the passage never says it.

Now a harder one
