Method
- Oxford's A100 Admissions Report (January 2026, page 4) charts applicants by UCAT band, split into not interviewed, interviewed without an offer, and offered a place. The chart labels its axis raw marks, but the values are scaled totals.
- We read each bar's height from the PDF's vector drawing, not a screenshot, and rounded to whole applicants. Nothing was adjusted to force the totals; they add up to Oxford's printed 1,026 applicants, 425 interviews and 175 offers.
- The headline rate is simply interviews (or offers) divided by applicants in your band.
- The smoothed figure fits a two-number logistic curve through all 13 bands. It is shown second because it assumes rates change smoothly within each band.
Uncertainty and limits
- Each count could be off by one applicant from rounding the chart.
- Small bands (21 applicants at 2600 and above) give rough rates. The model range shown with the smoothed figure covers sampling only.
- Checked by leaving out one whole band at a time and predicting it from the others: the curve's error (log loss 0.458 per applicant) beat a single flat rate (0.723). That is a check within one year, not a test on the next year.
- Oxford shortlists on GCSEs and context as well as UCAT, so the applicants in a band are not alike.
