UCAT timing per subtest and per question
Standard UCAT answer time is 22 minutes for VR, 37 for DM, 26 for QR and 26 for SJT. Each subtest also has a separate instruction period. The official format page below is the authority; use your approved timing if you have access arrangements.
Separate answer time from instructions

The first four columns reproduce the standard timing facts from UCAT. The final column is our calculation: answer minutes × 60 ÷ question count, rounded. These averages are not official question-by-question time limits.
Use checkpoints, not a stopwatch for every item
Our suggestion: after a small group of questions, check whether reading or solving consumed the time. Shared passages make individual-question averages uneven. If you are stuck, choose a response, flag it and move on; return if the subtest has time left. Practise that decision before test day.
Worked example Recover a QR schedule
Original teaching example. In a standard QR section, you have answered 12 questions and used 10 minutes. How much time remains per unanswered question, on average?
Why this works: There are 24 questions and 16 minutes left. 16 × 60 ÷ 24 = 40 seconds per remaining question. That is a planning average, not a reason to abandon a nearly finished calculation at exactly 40 seconds.
Why the tempting route fails: Dividing the original 26 minutes by 24 ignores the time already spent. Trying to force every question into 40 seconds ignores shared reading and varying complexity.
Practise your actual format
The standard table must not replace an approved access-arrangement schedule. A short drill rehearses pacing decisions; it cannot establish whole-test stamina. Use official practice tests for a longer rehearsal.
