UCAT SJT bands: what your result means
UCAT SJT is reported in four bands, with Band 1 the highest. It is separate from your cognitive total. A band describes judgement performance, not a universal admissions pass or fail; each university decides how to use it. The official scoring page below defines the bands.
Read the band, then the university rule

UCAT awards full credit for the correct response and partial credit for a close response. The cited scoring page does not supply a universal raw-mark-to-band conversion. Do not turn a percentage on one practice set into an official band.
Assess the action actually proposed
Our practice method: identify the immediate concern, the person's role and the effect of this particular action. A response can address one concern while leaving another unresolved. Judge the action's wording, rather than silently adding a sensible follow-up that it never mentions.
Worked example Protect a student's work
Original teaching example. A student notices that a classmate has copied another student's confidential placement reflection into a group chat. Proposed action: forward the reflection to more classmates to find out who wrote it. Rate this as very appropriate, appropriate but not ideal, inappropriate but not awful, or very inappropriate.
Why this works: Very inappropriate is our teaching answer. Forwarding spreads the private material further and is unnecessary to address the concern. The action itself creates additional harm.
Why the tempting route fails: A wish to identify the author does not justify wider sharing. Do not upgrade the action by imagining consent or a later apology. This example is not an official SJT item or band calibration.
Review the reasoning, not just the label
- Name what makes the action helpful or harmful.
- Check whether you judged an action or the importance of a factor; these are different tasks.
- Use official explanations to challenge your reasoning, then try a fresh scenario.
