UCAT tutor or UCAT course: which do you need?

Most of the UCAT is speed and method, which you build with timed practice and clear explanations. A tutor helps when you need someone to push the routine or talk through Situational Judgement. If you are in Year 12, you sit the UCAT in summer 2027, so you have time to try a course first and add a tutor only for what stays stuck.

A train ticket costs £48. A railcard takes one third off the price. Priya buys 3 tickets with her railcard and pays a £2.50 booking fee on the whole order. How much does she pay in total?

A UCAT tutor or UCAT Pro

UCAT Pro is our online course. Its tutor is Mia, an AI that explains the step you missed. She is not a person.

Starting early for UCAT 2027

If you are in Year 12 now and applying in autumn 2027 for 2028 entry, you sit the UCAT in summer 2027. The official booking details for 2027 are due in March 2027.

That gives you months, not weeks. Use the autumn and winter for method in each subtest, then build speed with timed mocks in the spring and summer. Our Year 12 guide sets out the order.

When a tutor is worth paying for

  • You cannot keep a routine alone

A weekly booking makes practice happen. Plan it for the spring and summer, when timing matters most.

  • One subtest will not move

If timed drills and explanations have not helped after a few weeks, a few sessions on that subtest can show where your method breaks.

  • You want to talk through SJT

Some students find it easier to discuss judgement out loud. Read each explained answer first.

Questions to ask a UCAT tutor

  • How will you build my speed in Verbal Reasoning and Decision Making, not only my accuracy?
  • Will I sit full timed mocks in the real format before my test?
  • How will you show me what has improved between sessions?
  • What is the total cost up to my test date?
  • Do you cover the on-screen calculator and keyboard shortcuts?

Questions people ask

Do you need a UCAT tutor?

No. The UCAT tests reasoning under time pressure, which you build with timed practice and clear explanations. A tutor helps some students keep a routine or talk through Situational Judgement.

When should I start preparing for UCAT 2027?

If you sit in summer 2027, starting in Year 12 gives you time for method first and speed later. Most of the timed practice belongs in the months before your test.

Is Mia a real tutor?

No. Mia is the course's AI tutor. She explains the step you missed on a question. She is not a person, and she does not replace a human tutor's judgement.

Is UCAT tuition worth it?

It depends on what is stopping you. Try timed practice with explanations first. If one subtest stays stuck, a few focused sessions cost less than a whole course of tuition.
